Brand new label based in Florence comes with an astonishing second release from The Cyclist, aka Ireland’s Andrew Morrison.
I have to say, this is very promising, and for me surpasses previous releases on Hypercolour and 100% Silk. “Boards Of Chicago” kicks off and pairs a snappy electro beat to a super rugged, gated B-line and this mega vocal refrain that simply goes ‘CHICAGO!’ – mint.
“Jackson Kalter” employs one of the lesser used Roland beat boxes – perhaps the 606 or 707, and develops African vocal chants and buzzing synth lines over the top, creating a phosphorescent canvas that erupts and swells as it grows in intensity – another top drawer track a million miles away from the first.
“Madass” flips the mood again and treats us to a lo-fi techno excursion with hats shelved at 12k, and a rich mid range dressed in warm pads, squelchy synth notes and plotted keys. Emotive, end-of-night haze for the chemically enhanced.
Excellent EP here displaying three very different sides to this talented producer. Recommended.
